QuestionAnswer
What is the difference between mitosis and meiosis? Mitosis is when one cell splits into two daughter cells. Meosis is when the cell gives rise to 4 gametes with half the number of cells of the original cell.
How many cells does mitosis have? Meosis? Mitosis has 46 chromosomes, 23 pairs/ Meosis has 46 chromosomes during the first meosis and has 23 durings the 2nd meiosis.
What does an acrosome do? helps digest and break egg.
Semen? Contains lots of sugar so the mitochondria have lots of glucose to generate energy for movement.
What do accessory glands do? Allow the sperm to survive.
What are the accessory glands? Prostate or in women the skene's gland. I helps promote survival of sperm. Bulbourethral- Cleans the urethra so semen primarily comes out.
What does an enlarged prostate do? Pinches off the urethra because the prostate surrounds it, so men can't void.
What is the corpora cavernos? Clioris of he penis. Lots of blood vessels and with stimulation it fills with blood and gets erect.
What pushes semen out? The urinary sphincter must close first and then peristaltic contractions push the semen out.
What are the ovaries? Located in abdominal cavity connected to uterus. They allow the egg to mature and then is sucked into fallopian tubes. They secrete estrogen, progesterone, inhibin and relaxin.
What is progesterone important for? Maintains uterus in a state that allows the egg to bind to the uterus.
Fallopian tube Sweeps egg down and semen up. This is where fertilization occurs. Embryo turns into a baby and the egg goes through meiosis 2 and divides o form an individual.
What happens if he egg isn't fertilized? Enters uterus but doesn't stick to the lining so it falls and you get menses.
Vagina and Vaginal cavity Take semen and fertilization occurs. The penis enters here. This is also a passage for menstrual flow.
Cervix during intercourse it gets longer to pick up semen and bring it into uterus. You get a cervical plug when fertilization occurs and it prevents semen and bacteria from entering.
Vulva Mons pubis, erectile tissue of clitoris, labia majora, labia minor, vestibule (opening)
How does liquid in women with sexual arousal help? Helps penis enter and helps semen flow and survive in uterus.
