QuestionAnswer
What is a satellite? Any natural or man-made object that revolves around another object
What is an asteroid? A large meteoroid, located mostly in the asteroid belt
Explain the moon. No atmosphere, a vacuum(no atoms or molecules are present) so no weathering and erosion
Give an interesting fact about the outer planets/gas giants. All have rings, Saturn has most rings, Jupiter has most moons
What are constellations and how can they help scientists? They are patterns of stars in the sky, help locate objects in space
What is an Astronomical Unit a.k.a AU? Sometimes refers to distances in space, one AU= 93,000,000 miles=distance from Sun to Earth
How does the gravitational pull of an object work? The larger the object the more gravitational pull it has
What is a black hole? A collapsed star whose gravity is so great light cannot escape it
What is a space probe? An object that is launched into space to travel distant areas while sending info through electromagnetic waves
What is a space shuttle? Takes off like a rocket but lands like an airplane
What is a space station? Allows astronauts to stay and orbit the Earth for months at a time, scientists can conduct experiments and see how its like to live in space
What is the difference between the Geocentric and Heliocentric theory? Geocentric(wrong)- Earth is the middle of everything Heliocentric- Sun is the middle of the Solar System, what we know today that is right
How can stars be grouped together? Global clusters and open clusters, can be millions of stars in these groups
What is the photo-sphere? The part of the Sun we can see from Earth
How do stars make their energy? Nuclear Fusion
Is the Universe still expanding? Scientists think so
What is the difference between luminous and illuminated? Luminous-gives off it's own light Illuminated-reflects light from another object
