| What do estrogens and progesterones do? | Regulate female reproductive cycle, maintain pregnancy, prepare mammary glands for lactation and promote development of female secondary sex characteristics. |
| What does relaxin do? | Flexibility of the pubic symphysis and dilates cervix. |
| What does testosterone do? | Stimulates descent of testes, regulates spermatogenesis, promotes secondary mal sex characteristics. |
| What is the GAS response? | General Adaptation Syndrome. It is a sequence of changes from long lasting stress. |
| 1st stage of GAS? | 1. Fight or Flight- SNS system, initiated by nerve impulses from hypothalamus to the SNS causes a release of epinephrine and norepinephrine. Results are immediate and brief. |
| 2nd stage of GAS? | 2. Resistance Reaction- regulated by hormones, hormones from the hypothalamus stimulate the anterior pituitary to release specific hormones. (ACTH, hGH, TSH) |
| 3rd stage of GAS? | 3. Exhaustion- energy is depleted, cortisol release leads to muscle wasting, suppression of immune response, failure of pancreatic beta cells |
