Metabolic acidosis? Decreased HCO3 and decreased pH

Causes of fluid deficit (dehydration)? Vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding
Causes of fluid overload? Excessive amounts of IV, congestive heart failure, renal failure
How much water is lost from skin, Kidneys, lungs & GI Skin is 600ml/day, Kidneys is 1500ml/day, lungs are 300ml/day and GI is 100ml/day
What is the osmolarity of body fluids? Measure of the total number of dissolved moleculrs, ions or mixture
2 factors leading to increased blood osmolarity? Dehydration or gain of electrolytes.
4 functions of electrolytes? Control osmosis of water, help maintain acid-base balance, carry electrical currents, serce as co-factors needed for optimal activity of enzymes.
What role does K have in the nervous system? establishes a resting membrane potential
Ca is important in what processes? Blood clotting, neurotransmitter release, maintains muscle tone, excitability of nervous and muscle tissue.
