| Rock | The solid mineral forming part of the surface of the earth. |
| Mineral | a solid inorganic substance of natural occurrence. |
| Igneous Rock | 1 of 3 types of rock ; formed by cooling magma or lava. |
| Sedimentary Rock | Sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth's surface and within bodies of water. |
| Metamorphic Rock | rises from the existing rock types. the original rock is subjected to heat & pressure. cause physical & chemical changes. |
| Composition | the nature of something's ingredients or constituents; the way in which a whole or mixture is made up. |
| Texture | the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance |
| Rock cycle | an idealized cycle of processes undergone by rocks in the earth's crust, involving igneous intrusion, uplift, erosion, transportation, deposition as sedimentary rock, metamorphism, remelting, and further igneous intrusion. |
| Weathering | The average weather conditions of a region over time are used to define a region's climate. Any of the chemical or mechanical processes by which rocks exposed to the weather undergo chemical decomposition and physical disintegration. |
| Deposition | the process by which sediments, soil, and rocks are added to a landform. Wind, ice, and water, transport previously eroded sediment, which, at the loss of enough kinetic energy in the fluid, is deposited, building up layers of sediment. |
| Erosion | the process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents. |
