Matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. |
Density | A measure of the amount of mass in a given volume. |
Law of Conservation of Mass | A law that states that in ordinary chemical and physical changes, mass is not created or destroyed, but is only transformed into different substances. |
Atom | The smallest unit of an element that maintains the property of that element. |
Element | A "building block" that is made up of one or more of the same kind of atom combined(Oxygen is an example). |
Compound | An atom that's made out of different types of atoms |
Mixture | A variety of elements and compounds that are not chemically bound |
Pure Substance | A substance that has definite physical and chemical properties |
Heterogeneous | A mixture that doesn't |
Homogenous | |
Mass | The amount of matter in an object |
Weight | A measure of the gravitational force on an object |
Volume | The amount of space that an object occupies |
Physical Properties | A characteristic of a substance that can be observe without changing the identity of the substance |
Chemical Properties | A substance's ability to change into a new substance with different properties |
Physical Change | A change that affects one or more physical properties of a substance` |
Chemical Change | When one or more substances change into entirely new substances with different properties |
Law of Conservation of Mass | A law stating that mass is not created or destroyed, but is transformed. |
Atoms | Smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of an element |
Element | 1 or more atoms of the same kind of atom combined chemically |
Compound | A type of atom that's made out of different kinds of atoms that are chemically combined |
Mixture | A variety of elements and compounds that are not chemically bound |
Pure Substances | A substance that has definite physical and chemical properties |
Heterogeneous | A type of mixture that does not have a uniform composition |
Homogeneous | A type of mixture in which the substances are evenly spread out |
Solid | a substance that has definite volume and shape |
Liquid | A substance that has a definite volume but not a definite shape |
Freezing | The transformation from liquid to solid |
Melting | The transformation from solid to liquid |
Evaporation | The transformation from a liquid to a gas |
Boiling | The rapid change from a liquid to a gas |
Condensation | The change of state from a gas to a liquid |
Sublimation | The change from a solid directly into a gas |
Deposition | The change from a gas to a solid |
