Earthquakes
| Term | Definition |

| stress | a force that acts an rock to change it's shape or volume. |
| tension | the stress force that pulls on the crust and thins rock in the middle. |
| comprestion | The stress force that squeezes rock until it folds or breaks. |
| shearing | The stress that pushes a mass of rock in two opposite directions. |
| normal fault | where rock is pulled apart by tension in earths crust, normal faults form. |
| reverse fault | A type of fault where the hanging wall slides upward; caused by compression the crust. |
| strike-slip fault | A type of fault in which rock on either side moves past each other sideways with little up or down motion. |
| plateau | A large landform that has high elevation and a more or less level surface. |
