Definitions on earths oceans

TermDefinition
Salinity A measure of the amount of salt in solutions
Desalination The process of taking salt out of salt water and making it potable
Benthic Zone The bottom of the ocean
Oceanic Zone Where the sea floor drops sharply. Large ocean animals live here.
Neritic Zone The portion of the ocean from the intertidal zone to the deep waters
Nekton Organisms that swim actively in the open ocean
Plankton Organisms that float or dfirt freely near the oceans surface
Estuary An area where fresh water from streams and rivers spill into the ocean
Wetland Land areas that remain wat for all or part of the year
Mangrove A marine ecosystem located along the coast of tropical areas. Mangrove trees help protect the area from erosion
