| mouth | the area of a river where it flows into sea or lake |
| source | the area where a river begins |
| weathering | the breakdown of large rock into smaller pieces of rock |
| erosion | a process that transports rock, soil, or sediment to a different location |
| deposition | the settling or coming to rest of transported rock, soil, or sediment |
| sediment | tiny bits of rock, shell, dead plants, or other materials transported and deposited by wind, rain, or ice |
| flooding | the overflowing of a water body, such as a river over its banks, onto normally dry land |
| delta | a fan-shaped (triangular) deposit of earth's materials at a mouth of a stream |
| floodplain | land that is covered by water during a flood, formed from sediments deposited by a river |
| glacier | a large, slowly moving sheet of ice |
| sinkhole | a natural hole that forms in the Earth’s surface as a result of weathering |
| sand dunes | mounds of sand moved by the wind or water |
