Element Simplest type of matter *Can be combined PHYSICALLY & form a mixture *Can be combined CHEMICALLY & form a compound
Matter Any thing that has mass and takes up space.
Compound Formed when elements arrange their electrons & form a NEW SUBSTANCE. *Created by CHEMICAL CHANGE. *Have DIFFERENT PROPERTIES than the original elements that form them.
Mixture Result from a combination of elements that have NOT BEEN CHEMICALLY REARRANGED. *parts of a MIXTURE still keep their ORIGINAL PROPERTIES. *CREATED & SEPARATED by PHYSICAL MEANS.
Homogeneous Mixture The parts are so evenly mixed, you can't distinguish one part from another.
Heterogeneous Mixture You can see the individual parts of the mixture.
Solution They are "homogeneously" mixed *Has 2 parts SOLUTE & SOLVENT.
Solute The smaller part of the mixture. it usually what is being DISSOLVED.
Solvent The bigger part of the mixture. it is doing the dissolving.
Suspension Type of Heterogeneous mixture in which the particles will settle out.
Colloid Special kind of mixture that can not be separated.
