Terms related to volcanos

Magma molten rock that usually contains some crystals and varying amounts of dissolved gas
Lava erupted magma
Viscosity lavas resistance to flow
Aa lava flows that have surfaces of rough jagged blocks with dangerously sharp edges and spiny projections
Pahoehoe lava flows that exhibit smooth surfaces that sometimes resemble the twisted braids of rope
Lava Tubes cave-like tunnels that were previously conduits for carrying lava from an active vent to the flow’s leading edge
Block Lava flows that consist of blocks with slightly curved, smooth surfaces
Fissure crack in the Earth’s surface as a result of magma moving forcefully towards the surface
Conduit a pipe-like opening through which magma moves towards the Earth’s surface
Vent the surface opening of a conduit
Volcanic Cone a cone shaped structure built by successive eruptions of lava and/or pyroclastic materials
Crater the depression at the summit of a volcano or a depression that is produced by a meteorite impact
Parasitic Cone a volcanic cone that forms on the flank of a larger volcano
Fumarole a vent in a volcanic area from which fumes or gases escape
Cinder Cones a rather small volcano built primarily of ejected lava fragments that consist of mostly pea- to walnut sized lapilli
Scoria vesicular ejecta that is the product of basaltic magma
Stratovolcano a composite cone
Pyroclastic Flows a highly heated mixture, largely of ash and pumice fragments, that travels down the flanks of a volcano or along the surface of the ground
Nuee ardente incandescent volcanic debris buoyed up by hot gases that moves downslope in an avalanche fashion
Lahar a debris flow on the slopes of a volcano that results when unstable layers of ash and debris become saturated and flow downslope, usually following stream channels
