abiotic having to do with nonliving things

biotic having to do with living things
community a group of living things that lives in one place and interact
conservation the protection of valuable things
environments the natural surroundings of living things
estuary the wide part of a river, where it joins the ocean or a lake
kelp a large, edible, seaweed
kudzu a fast growing Asian vine, invasive species
pollutants substances that contaminate another substance
predators animals that live by hunting other animals for food
prey an animal hunted by another animal for food
species one of the groups into which animals and plants are divided
ecologist a person who studies ecology
Theophrastus examined sprouting seeds and wrote about abiotic factors that affected plant growth
cycle series of events that keeps repeating
food chain describes who eats what in an ecosystem
food web many food chains in an ecosystem that are woven together to describe the ecosystem in more detail.
invasive species a non-native plant or animal that is part of an ecosystem. May be helpful or harmful.
coral reef structures built by tiny ocean animals that build up over time and create a home for many aquatic animals
aquatic having to do with water
herbivore animal that eats only plants
carnivore animal that eats other animals
omnivore animal that eats both plants and animals
ecology the study of the links between plants and animals and the living and nonliving things that effect them.
