Weather Quiz- terms

TermDefinition
Air mass A large body of air that has the same temperature and humidity
Front The boundary between different types of air masses
Cold front Formed when a mass of cold air advances and pushes away warmer air
Warm front A mass of warm air advances and pushes away colder air
Stationary front Two air masses meet and neither moves out of the way
Barometer The instrument used to measure air pressure
High pressure Created when colder falling air pushes DOWN on the earth
Low pressure Created when warm air rises and DOESNT push down as hard on the earth
Isobar Lines drawn on a weather map to connect areas of the same pressure
Isotherm Colored areas (or lines) on a weather map connecting areas of the same temperature
Humidity How much water vapor the air can hold at a specific temperature
Fair weather The kind of weather usually brought by cooler temperatures and a rising barometer
Warm air The type of air that can hold the most water vapor
Low pressure pt2 The direction air usually moves towards from higher pressure
