Mitosis and Meiosis

QuestionAnswer
Where does Mitosis take place? Anywhere is the body
How many cells are produced after Mitosis? Begins with 1 cell ends with 2
# of chromosomes in Human Cells produced by Mitosis? 46 Chromosomes
Type of Cell Produced In Mitosis? Diploid
What does Mitosis Do? -Replace old Cells -Adds cells to fight infection -growth
What is Interphase in Mitosis? Interphase is the "holding" stage or the stage between two successive cell divisions.
What is Prophase in Mitosis? -Chromatin in the nucleus begins to condense and becomes visible in the light microscope as chromosomes -The nucleolus disappears -Centrioles begin moving to opposite ends of the cell and fibers extend from the centromeres
What is Metaphase in Mitosis? -Spindle fibers align the chromosomes along the middle of the cell nucleus.
What is Anaphase in Mitosis? the stage in mitosis or meiosis following metaphase in which the daughter chromosomes move away from each other to opposite ends of the cell.
What is Telophase in Mitosis? -Chromatids arrive at opposite poles of cell, and new membranes form around the daughter nuclei. -The chromosomes disperse -The spindle fibers disperse, and cytokinesis or the partitioning of the cell may also begin during this stage.
What is Cytokinesis? Is the process in which the cytoplasm of a single eukaryotic cell is divided to form two daughter cells?

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
