Mass Movement Mass movement is the movement of surface material caused by gravity.
Erosion the process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural ag
Sediments Material moved by erosion
Deposition occurs where the the agents of erosion lay down sediment
Weathering wear away or change the appearance or texture of (something) by long exposure to the air.
Mudslide Rapid downhill movement of a mixture of water, rock and soil.
Slump A mass of rock and soil suddenly slip down a slope.
Runoff All the remaining water that moves over Earth's surface.
Rills Runoff travels, forms tiny grooves in the soil
Gully Larger groove, or channel, in the soil that carries runoff after a rain storm.
Stream A channel along which water is continually flowing down a slope
Tributary stream that flows into a larger stream
Drainage Basin The land area from which a river and its tributaries collect their water
Divide high ground between two drainage basins
Valley a low area of land between hills or mountains, typically with a river or stream flowing through it
Waterfalls a cascade of water falling from a height, formed when a river or stream flows over a precipice or steep incline.
Floodplain The flat, wide area of land along a river
Meanders A loop like bend in the course of a river
Oxbow Lake A meander that has been cut off from a river
Alluvial Fan wide, sloping deposits of sediment formed where a stream leaves a mountain range.
Delta Where a river flows into the ocean
Valley Widening River approaches sea level
V-shaped Valley River flows and cuts a deeper valley
Ground water the term geologists use for this underground water.
Stalactite A deposit that hangs like an icicle
Stalagmite Slow dripping builds up a cone-shape on the cave floor
Karst Topography A type of landscape in rainy regions where there is limestone near the surface, characterized by caverns, sinkholes and valleys.
Abrasion The wearing away of rock by grinding action
Friction the force that opposes the motion of one suface as it moves across another suface
Ice age When continental glacier cover large parts of Earth's surface
Glaciers large mass of ice that moves slowly
River A large stream
Gravity The force that moves rock and other materials down hill
Creep A very slow downhill movement of rock and soil.
Landslide When rock and soil slide quickly down a steep slope
Till the mixture of sediments that a glacier deposits directly on the surface.
