Wave Vocabulary

Wave Vocabulary for Test

QuestionAnswer
Wave traveling disturbance that carries energy from one place to another
Vibration Movement that follows the same path over and over again
Transverse Wave A wave in which the motion of the medium is at right angles to the direction of the wave
Longitudinal wave A wave in which the motion of the medium is parallel to the direction of the wave
Surface Wave Wave that consists of a combination of transverse and longitudinal waves and occurs at the surface between two different mediums
Medium Material through which a mechanical wave travels
Angle of Reflection The angle between an incoming wave and an imaginary line drawn perpindicular to the surface of the new medium
Angle of Incidence The angle between an incoming wave and an imaginary line drawn perpindicular to the surface of the new medium
Law of Reflection States that the angle of reflection equals the angle of incidence
Electromagnetic wave Wave that consists of electric and magnetic fields and does not require a medium to exist
Reflection bouncing back of waves upon reading another surface
