Homeostasis process by which organisms maintain a relatively stable internal environment
Lipid Macromolecule that contains carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen in a 1:2 ratio with very little oxygen; nonpolar molecules
Mineral inorganic nutrient the body needs, usually in small amounts
Monomer A small molecule that can be repeatedly bonded to itself to form a larger molecule
Monosaccharide Monomer of a carbohydrate; example is glucose
Nucleic acid Macromolecule that contains carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and phosphorus; known as genetic code as it code for life processes
Nucleotide Monomer of a nucleic acid; made of a sugar, a phosphate, and a nitrogen base
Polymer A large molecule made of a series of smaller molecules chemically bonded to each other
Protein Macromolecule that contains carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen; some regulate chemical reactions in living things
Substrate Molecule on which an enzyme acts
Vitamin Organic molecule the body needs in small amounts
