ecosystem all the living and non-living things in an area and their interactions
habitat a place that provides all things an organism needs to live
population a group of organisms of one species that live in an area at the same time
community the group of all populations in an area
producer organisms that make their own food for energy
consumer organisms that cannot make their own food
decomposer organisms that get their energy from breaking down wastes and dead organisms
food chain a series of steps by which energy moves from one type of living thing to another
food web a diagram that combines many food chains into one picture
predator a consumer that hunts and eats other animals
prey an animal that is hunted by other food
pollution any substance that damages the environment
conservation an attempt to preserve or protect an environment from harmful changes
