Describe Jet streams? Narrow belts of high speed winds that blow in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere.
What is the Green house effect? sunlight and heat can come in but the heat is trapped.
Explain the 3 ways that heat is transferred? Conduction,
Where do Trade winds flow toward? Equator and doldrums
What does the Coriolis Effect make the winds do? Move in a circular information
Describe the doldrums? A spot in the middle of where both trade winds blow with little to no wind for sail or anything.
What is the ozone layer? Where is it found? The ozone layer protects us from harmful U.V. rays. It is in the mesosphere
Describe the Thermosphere? Hottest part of the atmosphere.
What is the most common atmospheric gas? Nitrogen Gas
What part of the Earth heats up faster and cools off faster? What does the unequal heating create The ground cools off faster and heats up faster. The unequal heating creates Local winds.
What is smog? A mixture of smoke and fog
Describe the movement of convection currents? cold sinking dense air pushes warm light less dense air continues in a cycle
Which instrument measures air pressure? Barometer
what is significant about the troposphere? We live there and all of our weather takes place in this layer of the atmosphere
What kind of ways have humans created air pollution? By: Burning fossil fuels and smoking
What is another name for the distance above sea level? Altitude or Elevation
What are Global winds? convections cells at every 30 degrees latitude Blow across long distances
What does the name of the wind tell you? The direction it's going
How much of the sun's energy actually reaches the Earth? 2 billionth
What property are the layers of the atmosphere based on? temperature
Which calm area is located around 30 degrees north and south latitude? Trade winds
What is the atmosphere? A mixture of gasses that protect the Earth from harmful U.V rays and space debris
List the 3 Global winds and the 2 calm areas? Westerlies, Easterlies, and Polar
What is Global warming? The increase in average temps on Earth
If air mass increases what happens to density? Decreases
What type of winds blow over short distances? Local winds
How are all winds created? Unequal heating
