What is the greenhouse effect? The trapping in of harmful gases

Where do trade winds flow toward? they blow towards the equator
What does the Coriolis effect make the winds do? it deflects the winds to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern hemisphere
Describe the doldrums. they are dull and sluggish and live around the equator and where trade winds meet
What is the ozone layer? Where is it found? the portion of the atmosphere that contains high levels of the oxygen molecule ozone
Describe the thermosphere. layer of earths atmosphere drectly above mesosphere and directly below exosphere
What is the most common atmospheric gas? nitrogen
What parts of the earth heats up faster and cools off faster? What does this unequal heating create? soil of the earth/
What is smog? mixture of smoke and fog
Describe the movement of convection currents. it rises and then goes back down
Which instrament measures air pressure? barometer
What is signifacant about the troposphere? we live in it and it gives us the oxygen to breathe
What kind of ways have humans created air pollution? burning fossil fuels, producing chemicals, and exhaust from cars
What is another name for the distance above sea level? altitude and elevation
What are global winds? winds that blow all around the globe from different directions
What does the name of a wind tell you? what direction it blows from
How much of the sun's energy actually reaches the Earth? 2 billionths
What property are the layers of the atmosphere based on? temperature
Which calm area is located around 30 degrees north and south latitude? horse latitudes
What is the atmosphere? it is a mixture of gases around the earth or other planets
List the 3 global winds and the 2 calm areas. polar easterlies, westerlies, and trade winds/ horse latitudes and doldrums
What is global warming? the warming up of an area unexpectedly around the globe
If air mass increases what happens to density? the density also increases
What type of winds blow over short distances? local winds
How are all winds created? differences in air pressure
