What is the greenhouse effect? The greenhouse effect is absorbed thermal energy that radiate back into the earth.
Explain the 3 ways that heat is transferred. Conduction, Radiation, and Convection
Where do trade winds flow toward? Trade winds flow in a circulation pattern.
What does the Coriolis effect make winds do? The Coriolis effect make winds curve do to the earths rotation.
Describe doldrums. Doldrums are when the trade winds of the northern and southern hemisphere meet.
What is the ozone layer?Where is it found? The ozone layer is a layer that protects us from the sun's harmful rays.It's found in the lower stratosphere.
Describe the Thermosphere. The hottest and top layer of the atmosphere.
What is the most common atmosphere gas. Nitrogen
What parts of the earth cools off faster and heats up faster.What does this unequal heating create. Land cools off faster and heats up faster.Unequal heating creates winds
What is smog. Smog is when ozone and exhuast reach with sun light.
Describe the movement of convection currents? The movement of convection currents are in a circular motion
Which instrument measures air pressure? An instrument that measures air pressure is a barometer.
What is significant about the troposphere? What's significant about the troposphere is that we live in it.
What kinds of ways have humans created air pollution? Vehicle exhuast
What is another name for the distance above sea level? Altitude or elavation
What are global winds? Global winds are the combination of convection cells fund at every 30 degrees of latitude.
What does the name of a wind tell you? The direction wind is blowing.
How much of the sun's energy actually reaches the earth? About 50%
What property are the layers of the atmosphere based on? The layer's temperature changes with height.
Which calm area is located around 30 degrees north and south latitude? Horse latitudes
What is the atmosphere? A mixture of invisible gases that protect and cover the earth from things from outer space.
List the 3 global winds and the 2 calm areas? Polar easterlies, Westerlies, and trade winds, Horse latitudes and Doldrums.
What is global warming? Global warming is an increase in average temperatures.
If air mass increases what happens to density? Density increases
What type of winds blow over short distances? Trade winds
How are all winds created? The unequal heating of the sun
