Methylzanthines caffeine, aminophylline, theophylline -used as analeptics -currently less frequent use
Serotonin receptor agonist new class of CNS stims use to treat migraine headaches by stimulating specific receptors in brain (5-HT1) -may be referred to as triptans
amphetamines - used to treat ADHD & narcolepsy - stimulate cerebral cortex and thalamus - effects similar to SNS stimulation
caffeine -OTC and in foods -contraindicated w/ cardiac dysrhythmias
methylphenidate -amphetamine used for ADHD (ritaline.concerta)
phentermine (Ionamin) - sympathomimetic anorexiant
sibutramine (Meridia) -anorexiant that inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin which results in reduced appetite
sumatriptan (Imitrex) -original prototype SSRA (Seratonin agonists)
