QuestionAnswer
List the examples of local winds. moutian and valley breezes
what are auroras and where are they formed? radiated energy as shimmering lights, found in ionsphere
Our ozone layer abosorbs which type of harmful radiation from the sun? UV radiation
How much oxygen and carbon dioxide is found in our air? 78% nitrogen 21% oxygen 1% remaing gases.
Which global winds blow away from the poles to the west? polar Easteriles
What are the two most abundant gases found in the air? Nitrogen and oxygen
Descirbe air pressure. the measure of the force with which air molecules push on a surface.
What happens to air pressure as alitude increases. When you go up high air pressure gets low because there is less on top of you that is why when you go lower there is higher air pressure because there is more above you or on top of you.
Descibe jet streams. narrow belts of high - speed winds upper part of the troposphere and lower stratosphere.
What is the greenhouse effect? the process by which gases in the atmosphere, such as water vapor and carbon dioxide, absorb thermal energy and radiate it back to Earth.
Eplain the three ways heat is transfored. Radiation is the transfer of energy as electromagnetic waves. Thermal conduction is the transfer of thermal energy through a material. Convection is the transfer of thermal energy by the movement of a liquid or gas.
Where do trade winds flow towrd/ equadoor
What does the Coriolis effect make the winds do? Curve i a strait path due to the Earths rotaion and therefor makem winds go in a non strait line.
descride doldrums. a place that does not get a lot of wind due to the low air pressure around the eqadoor.
WHat is the ozone layer? Where is it found? layer of the atmosphere that absourbs harmful UV rays. found between the straosphere and mesopherwe.
descibe the thermosphere. The uppermost atmospheric layer
What is the most common atmosphere gas? Nitrogen.
What parts of the earth cools off faster and heats up faster? What does this unequal heating create? Land heats up faster and water cools faster. They create local winds.
What is smog? Smog forms when ozone and vehicle exhaust react with sunlight
Decribe the movment of convection currents? the transfer of thermal energy by the circulation or movement of a liquid or gas.
which instrument measures air pressure? brometer
What is significant about the troposphere? densest atmospheric layer
What kind of ways have humans created air pollution? Transportation, industrial plants, vehicles
What is another name for the distance above sea level? elevation
What are global winds? Winds around the glob
What does the name of a wind tell you? Where it comes from.
How much of the suns energy actually reaches the Earth? 70%
What property are the layers of the atmosphere based on? Temperature change
Which calm area is located around 30 degrees north and south latitude. horse laitiudes
What is the atmosphere? Mixture of gases surrounding our earth!
List 3 global winds and the 2 calm areas. jet streams, Polar westerlies and easterlies. Mountain and valley brezeses
What is global warming? increase in average global temperature.
If air mass increases what happens to density? density increses
What type of winds blow over short distances? Local winds
How are all winds created? differences in air pressure.
