What is the atmosphere? Is a mixture of gases around our earth.
What is the ozone layer? Is a layer of our earth that protects us from harmful rays.
What is global warming? Is the warming of the earth by the sun.
What are the 2 types of air pressure. High and low air pressure.
What are local winds? Winds that move all around our earth.
Describe air pressure? The pressure that the winds on our earth move.
What happens when you decrease in height? Air pressure increases.
How are winds created? By the circulation of air flow.
What is smog? Is the air pollution that has been in the air for a long period of time.
What does the name of a wind tell you? If it is warm or cold.
Where is the ozone layer found? stratosphere.
What is the thermosphere? The hottest layer.
List examples of local winds? sea breezes and land breezes.
What is special about the troposphere? It is where we live and where weather happens.
What calm area is located 30 degrees north and south latitude? Horse latitudes.
How have humans created air pollution? We use exhaust for cars or burn fossil fuels.
What are jet streams? Are narrow belts of high-speed winds that blow in the upper troposphere and lower strato sphere.
What are auroras? Are bright lights in the sky that glow.
Our ozone layer absorbs which type of harmful radiation from the sun? ultraviolet rays.
What is the green house effect? It is when rays hit earth then bounce back.
What is the most common atmospheric gas? Nitrogen
What is another name for the distance above sea level? altitude or elevation.
List three global winds? westerlies and trade winds and polar easterlies.
How much carbon and oxygen are found in the air? 21 percent.
3 ways heat is transferred? convection, conduction,radiation.
What heats up faster and cools down faster? land heats up and water cools down.
How does wind move from the poles? west to east.
What do trade winds flow to? The equator.
What happens when air mass decreases what happens to density? increases.
2 gases in the air? Nitrogen and oxygen.
What does the Coriolis effect due to winds? heats or cools them.
What are doldrums? They are are a type of trade wind.
What are global winds? The combination of convection cells every 30 degrees latitude.
Which instrument measures air pressure? Barometer.
What property measures the layers of the atmosphere based on? Temperature.
Describe the movement of convection currents? With heat source and cold sinking and dense.
How much of the suns energy actually reaches the Earth? 2 billionths.
What type of winds blow over short distances? Local winds.
