science wind p. 2

science wind part two

QuestionAnswer
what is wind? the horizontal movement of air from an area of high pressure to an area of lower pressure.
what is air pressure? a force pushing on an area or surface.
what does a denser substance have per unit volume then a less dense substance? mass.
colder temps are more... dense then warmer temps.
more dense= higher air pressure.
warmer air= lower air pressure.
cooler air= higher air pressure.
what causes winds? differences in air pressure.
what are differences in air temp caused by? unequal heating of the atmosphere.
air over heated surfaces becomes... less dense.
less dense air means... lower air pressure.
what will cooler air do to warmer air? move in and flow under the warmer air.
what are local winds? the occur over a short distance.
what causes local winds? unequal heating of the earths surface within a small area.
where do local winds occur? near bodies of water.
what are sea breezes? when land heats up more quickly then water. during the day the air over the land becomes warmer then the air over the water. The air over the land becomes less dense and rises. cool air from over the water moves under the warm air.
what are land breezes? its when land cools more quickly then water. during the night the air over the water is warmer then the air over the land. the warmer air over the water rises. cooler air from the land moves to take its place.
