Clouds / Water Cycle

Nimbostratus Low altitude dark spread out probable showing precipitation
Stratus Flat spread out low altitude cloud possible precipitation
Cumulus Puffy white balls of cotton low altitude usually fair weather
Cirrus High altitude light wispy or feathery fair weather
Cirrocumulus High altitude thin but puffy cloud possibly a storm approaching
Alto The prefix for a middle altitude cloud
Fog A low level cloud forms when water or land surface is cooler than the air above
Condensation Water vapor changing to liquid. A cloud forms in the troposphere
Evaporation Liquid changing to gas. Water changes to invisible water vapor in the troposphere
Collection Water settling in lower places, like sea level, lakes, and ponds
Groundwater Water sinking through pores in the land to form underground
Transpiration Water changing to water vapor from leaves of plants
Dew Water vapor changes to a liquid directly on a surface like grass, other plants, or the windshield of a car
Run-off Water always attempts to move back toward sea level
Precipitation Water in any form falling from a cloud
Frost Water changing from gas directly to ice crystals on a surface
