What are beaches? Shorelines made of sand
What are barrier islands? Are natural and function to protect the mainland from the effects of waves on its shore
What are estuaries? The area where rivers meet the ocean
What are inlets? Water filled spaces between the barrier islands
What are currents? An ongoing movement of ocean water
What are waves? The repeat movement of water
What are tides? Changes in the level of water at the ocean shore
What are spring tides? When the sun and moon line up and pull in the same direction
What are neap tides? When the sun and moon pull in different directions
What is the highest part of the wave known as? The crest
What is the lowest part of the crest known as? The trough
What creates currents? Wind moving across the surface of the water
What is a mixture of fresh water and salt water called? Brackish
