Soil And Weathering

This will boost skills of weathering and erosion, along with soil

QuestionAnswer
What is the process that breaks down earths surface Weathering
What is the movment of broken down paricles by water, wind, and ice Erosion
What are the Agents of Mechanical Weathering Abrasion, freezing and thawing, heating and cooling, animal actions, and plant growth.
What are the agents of Chemical Weathering Water, Carbon dioxide, oxeygen, living organisms, and acid rain.
What makes soil richest Humus from decayed material.
What are the 4 horizons of soil Topsoil, Subsoil, Horizon C, Bedrock
Chemichal weathering is Is the process that breaks apart rock from chemical changes.
Mechanical weathering is The process that breaks up rock physically.
Abrasion The grinding away of rock particles from water wind and ice
Freezing and Thawing When water freezes in a crack of a rock, the water expands and makes the crack larger. Then this keeeps happening until the rock breaks. This process is also called ice wedging
Heating and Cooling The sun shines on the rock causing it to flake. then rain makes it faster to case in and crack it.
Animal Actions Animals dig into to soil and break apart rocks
Plant Growth Plant roots grow down into the rock and as they get bigger can crack it over time.
Water Is the most important Agent of chemichal weathering and can dissolve almost anything. Even rock.
Oxeygen When oxygen mixes with water it causes metal or rock to rust.
CO2 When CO2 mixes with water it creates weak acid that can weather rock.
Living Organisms Roots can turn into acid and healp weather rock
Acid Rain Air pollution can cause acids to form in clouds which produce acid rain, which can lead to weathering
