Weathering and Soil

Weathering and Soil Review

QuestionAnswer
What is the difference between Weathering and erosion The difference between weathering and erosion is that weathering is the processes of rocks being broken down.Erosion is when rock is moved by wind water or ice.
What is the difference between mechanical weathering and chemical weathering The difference between mechanical and chemical is that mechanical is when rock is broken down physical and chemical is when it is broken down chemicaly.
What is the difference between weathering and erosion? Weathering is the process of rocks being broken down either physically or chemically.Erosion is when a rock is move to a new location by wind, water, or ice.
What is the difference between mechanical and chemical weathering? A:Mechanical weathering is when rock is broken down physically, but not changed. Chemical weathering is when rock is broken down chemically. This changes the rocks composition.
What are the agents (types) of mechanical weathering? Explain. Abrasion-is the grinding away of rocks which gets carried away by water, ice, or wind.
What are the agents (types) of mechanical weathering? Explain. Freezing & Thawing-is when water freezes in the crack of a rock and then it expands soon to break.
What are the agents (types) of mechanical weathering? Explain. Heating & Cooling-a rock is heated by the sun. The rock starts to flake when it's heated by the sun. When it rains the rock with crack and soon break.
What are the agents (types) of mechanical weathering? Explain. Animal Actions-Animals dig into soil and while they are digging they start to break and crack rocks.
What are the agents (types) of mechanical weathering? Explain. Plant Growth-when a plant grows the roots get bigger and bigger. If rocks are in the way of roots the roots will continue to grow and will crack the rocks.
What is humus? Humus is the organic material which is formed by decomposed leaves and other decomposed plants. Humus is also made by decomposers
What are the agents (types) of chemical weathering? Explain. Carbon Dioxide-dissolves in water which makes a week acid. This acid brakes down the rock.
What are the agents (types) of chemical weathering? Living Organisms-plant roots grow. When this happens it gets into the crack of a rock. The roots will grow causing the rock to crack more. The rock with then eventually break.
What are the agents (types) of chemical weathering? Explain. Acid Rain-air pollution causes acid to form in clouds. When this happens clouds get filled with acid. When it rains the cloud will rain acid rain.
Explain the horizons of soil? Litter- litter is leaves and twigs and other stuff on top of horizon A.Horizon A- also know as topsoil. Is crumbly, dark brown, soil that is a mixture of humus, clay, and other materials.
