Beach's, Barrier island's, Estuaries, and Inlets

What is the ocean shore zone? The area where the ocean meets the land.
What can you find in the ocean shore zone? Beach's, Barrier islands, estuaries, and inlets
What are beaches? Shore lines made of sand
Tides can bring in what at high tide? Shells and ocean sediment
What are islands? Pieces of land surrounded by water
Barrier islands function to? Protect the mainland From the effects of waves on its shore's
What changes when waves deposit sand on barrier islands beaches? Change its shape
What are estuaries? The area where the river meets the ocean
What water do estuaries have? Brackish water
What brings sediment and sea life to the estuaries? High tides
What are inlets? Water filled spaces between barrier islands
AS the tides change the inlets will? Change
What can change an inlet opening? Currents and storms
What are currents? On going movement of water
What creates currents? Wind moving across the surface of the water
How many directions do currents move in? 1
What are wave's? The repeated movement of water
What do all waves have? Crest and trough
Most ocean waves are caused by? Winds that are blown across the surface of the water
A wave change's shape when it? reaches shore
As the top of the wave curls over it turns into a? breaker
What are tides? The regular rise and fall of water in the ocean and sea's
What are tides caused by? The pull of moons gravity on earth as the moon moves in relation to the earth.
High tide's occur when? Water level is at highest point.
Low tide's occur when? Water level is at lowest point
Spring tide's occur when? The moon and sun line up and pull in the same direction.
Neap tide's occur when? When the moon and sun pull in different direction's and their pulls cancel out each other
