what is the diaphysis? the cylindrical shaft of the bone
what is the epiphysis? the large knob at the end of the bone
what is in the central cavity of the bone? yellow bone marrow
what is yellow bone marrow and what is it used for? it is fat, is used for energy (ATP)
what is inside they epiphysis (large knob on the end of the bone)? spongy bone
what are stem cells primary function? produce red and white blood cells
where are stem cells located? the red bone marrow
What is the purpose of Periosteum? a tough, outer layer of the bone, primary function is protection and forming bone cells
what is an osteocyte? bone cells
What is an osteon? Osteocytes (bone cells) formed in cylindrical structures
How do osteocytes receive nutrients? From the blood vessels that pass through a central canal (aversion canal)
