TermDefinition
Volcano Any place where gas, ash or melted rock comes out of the ground.
Magma Melted rock that is found beneath the Earth's surface.
Lava Magma or melted rock that has reached the Earth's surface.
Vent The opening of a volcano.
Pyroclastic Materials Hot ash and bits of rock that may be ejected into the atmosphere They can build up and can create volcanic mountains
Tectonic Plates Giant sections of the Earth's crust.
Hot Spot A location where a column of extremely hot mantle rises through the Earth's layers It can melt partially to form magma that can rise to the surface and from a volcano.
