Food Chains a sequence of food transfers that show the flow of energy within an ecosystem
Primary Literature peer reviewed. Ex: Journals
Taxonomy refers to the branch in biology that applies classification by systematically giving names and classification to species
Convergent Evolution process where two different species from different lineages show similar characteristics because they occupy similar environments
Analogous Structures the result of convergent evolution structures that have arisen independently two or more times, because species have occupied similar types of environments ex:(wings on insects, mammals and birds)
Homologous Structures Structures that re similar to each other because they are derived from the same ancestral structure ex:(carpals, metacarpals)
Cladogram diagrams that represent hypothetical histories of relationships
Parsimony the simplest answer
Charles Darwin wrote "The Origin of Species"
Natural Selection definition includes competition, variation, heritability, and differential selection
Carolus Linneaus binomial system of nomenclature
Gene Fixation the loss of all but one possible allele at a gene locus in a population, which is a common result of genetic drift in small natural populations
Photoautotrophs produces own food through photosynthesis
Mixotrophs can ingest food and photosynthesize
Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium Random mating, no gene flow, no mutations, no natural selection, large population
Enriched media ex: TSA
Selective media inhibits growth of certain strains
Differential media ex: different things grow different colors
Dinoflagellates responsible for red tides

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
