aerobic An area where oxygen is present
anaerobic An environment without oxygen
biomagnification Living things take in pollutants and as it moves up the food chain it becomes more concentrated
leachate Dissolves substances in soil and carries them with it
sulfur dioxide forms when sulfur combines with oxygen; forms smog and acid rain
nitrogen oxide forms when nitrogen combines with oxygen; gives smog brown colour
