Notes about water
| Term | Definition |

| Permeable | Materials that allow water to pass through easily |
| Impermeable | Materials that do not allow water to pass through easily |
| Saturated Zone | The permeable layer that becomes filled with water |
| Water Table | The level of the top of the water in the saturated zone |
| Unsaturated Zone | The layer of rocks and soil above the water table |
| Aquifer | An underground layer of rock or sediment where water has collected |
| Artesian Well | A well in which water rises because of pressure within the aquifer |
| Tributaries | The streams and rivers that feed into a main river |
| Watershed | The land area that supplies water to a river system |
| Divide | A ridge of land that separates one watershed from another |
| Reservoir | A lake that stores water for human use |
| Nutrients | Substances that enable plants and algae to grow |
| Eutrophication | A process in which over many years the nutrients build up in a lake |
