| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Rift Zone | A narrow trench at the highest point of the mid-ocean ridge |
| Continental Shelf | Shallow part of the ocean, near the continent |
| Continental Slope | The steep drop off after the continental shelf that goes deep on to the ocean floor |
| Seamount | This is an underwater volcano separate from the mid-ocean ridge |
| Mid-ocean Ridge | These are formed when the ocean floor opens and lava comes out to build up and builds a mountain |
| Abyssal Plain | The ocean floor after the continental slope that are wide and flat |
| Ocean Basin | Located on either side of the mid-ocean ridge that is made up of low hills and flat plains |
