Unit 3
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| electric charge | property that leads to electro magnetic interactions between particles that make up matter |
| static electricity | build up of electric charge on an object |
| electrical conductor | a material through which charges can move freely |
| electrical isulator | a material through which charges cannot move easily |
| semiconductor | special class of material that conduct electric charge better than electrical insulators but not as well as electrical conductors |
| electrical curent | rate of flow of electric charge |
| voltage | the amount of work required to move each unit of charge between two points |
| resistance | opposition to the flow electric charge |
| electric circut | a complete, closed path through which electric charges can flow |
| series circut | all parts are connected in a row that forms one path for the electric charges to follow |
| parallel circut | electric charges have more than one path that they can follow |
| magnet | used to describe any material that attracts iron or objects made of iron |
| magnetic force | exert a push or a pull when 2 magnets are close together |
| magnetic pole | two magnets can push each other apart because of their ends |
| magnetic field | the area surrounding a magnet where magnetic forces can be detected |
| electromagnetism | results when electric currents and magnetic fields interact with eachother |
| electromagnet | wrapping a solenoid around an iron core |
