Eukaryotic Cells

What are eukaryotic cells? Cells that are found within other living organisms apart from bacteria
What are organelles? Membrane bound substances that are discreted from the cll, and found within the cytoplasm
Examples of organelles include... Nuceus, Ribosomes, Mitochondria (Chloroplasts)
What is the nucleolus? A dense body found within the nucleus, where ribosomes are made
What is the rough endoplasmic reticulum? (rER) A system of interconnected membrane bound, flattened sacs.
What are on the rER surface? Ribosomes
What happens to proteins inside the rER? They assume their three- dimensional shape
What structure is the cell surface membrane? Phospholipid Bilayer
What is the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?(sER) Smooth ER makes lipids and steroids
What is the golgi apperatus? Stacks of flattened sacs, formed by the fusions of vesicles frowm the ER, it modifies proteins and packages them into vesicles for transport
What are lysosomes? Spherical sacs containing digestive enzymes, involved in the breakdowns of unwanted structures in the cell
What are mitochondria the site of? Aerobic Respiration
What are centrioles? Hollow cylinders, they are involved in the formation of the spindle during nulear division
