| circulatory system | carries oxygen, food, and wastes throughout the body; heart, blood vessels, and blood make up this system; works with the respiratory and digestive systems |
| circulate | flow of air |
| respiratory system | takes in oxygen from air in your lungs |
| respiration | process of breathing in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide |
| air | what we breathe; gases around us |
| autonomic | carries out the activities of our body without thinking |
| carbon dioxide | move from cells to the blood; breathed out of our body |
| cell membrane | outer covering of a cell; keeps all cell materials inside |
| fluid | liquids and/or gases such as water |
| nutrients | circulatory system absorbs these and carries them to the cells of your body |
| oxygen | circulatory system carries this to every cell of your body |
| pulmonary artery | the artery that leaves the heart and enters the lungs |
| heart | center of the circulatory system; pumps blood through blood vessels |
| pulse | heart must push blood through your body faster during physical exercise to supply it with the oxygen it needs; you can tell how fast your heart is beating by finding this |
| red blood cell | solid part of blood; has hemoglobin which carries oxygen around in the body |
| vein | blood moves through these back to the heart |
| ventricle | sends blood to the arteries |
| tissue | many cells arranged in layers; collection of cells carrying out different functions |
| valve | open and then close tightly to keep blood moving in the same direction through your circulatory system |
| blood vessels | (arteries); the heart pumps blood through these to then move the blood through into capillaries |
| capillaries | oxygen and food move from the blood to the body's cells |
