Rocks & Soils 3rd Grade Review

TermDefinition
What are the three types of soil? Sand, Silt, and Clay
What are the differences between the types of soil? Partical size.
Humus Small bits of dead plant and animal remains.
Sand has largest particle size. Rough to touch. The color depends on the kinds of minerals in it. Allows water to pass through easily.
Clay Smallest particles. Sticky and smooth. It can be different colors. Hard for water to pass through easily.
Silt Particles are larger than clay, but smaller than sand. Feels smooth. It holds little water. Rivers carry it. When water floods the land, this is left behind.

What are the three kinds of rocks? Igneous Rock, Sedimentary Rock, and Metamorphic Rock
Igneous Rock Rock formed from hot, melted material that is found below the surface of the Earth.
Magma Hot melted material below the Earth.
Lava Hot melted material above the Earth’s surface.
