reproductive isolation the conditions as physiological or behavioral differences or geographical barriers, that prevent potentially interbreeding populations from cross-fertilization
gradualism a proposed explanation in evolutionary biology stating that new species arise form the result of slight modifications(mutations and resulting phenotypic changes)over many generations
punctuated equilibrium pattern of evolution in which long stable periods are interrupted by brief periods of more rapid change
paleontologist a scientist who studies fossils

homologous structure structures in different species that are similar because of common ancestry
