QuestionAnswer
Agriculture Land used for growing crops, only 1 third or earths land is fertile. The rest is to wet and salty. New land is destroyed by destroying forests, draining wet lands, and iragating deserts.
Mining Removal of non-renewable resources. Strip mining is removal of an intire strip of land. You must replace everything after strip mining. If not you create dangerous holes and collapse surfaces.
Development Construction of buildings. 2.5 acres is developed each year. Destroys land and needed wildlife
Problems with poor soil managment Erosion- Process in which wind and water move land and destroy rock can be reduced with soild conversion
Porr soil managment Nutrient depletion- Lack of needed nutrients in soil. Becomes infertile by lack of nutrients to prevent rotate crops allow root and leave fallow land
Desertification Advance of desert like condition if fertile soil, happens when there is a giant change in the climate overgrazing animals, or extreme lack of trees.
Strip cropping Alternate tall and short crops, prevents soil washout
Contour Plowing Curved rows around a hill prevents soil erosion
Conversion Plowing Leave dead plants in there place to hold topsoil
Terracing Build land into flat ridges of soil, prevents soil erosion
Windbreak Rows of trees along edge of field to break wind, prevents soil erosion
Litter dead leaves and grass and organic material
Topsoil Mixture of rock fragments,nutrients, water and air.
Subsoil Mixture of lots of rock fragments, a little bit of water, and a bit of air
Bedrock Rock that makes up earth's crust that is destroyed by freezing
