TermDefinition
controlled scientific investigation - determine the effect of an independent variable in an experiment, when all the other variables are controlled.
data - the facts, figures, and other evidence gained through observations -information both scientific and inferences
dependent - responding variable
hypothesis - prediction
independent - manipulate variable
inference - explanation or interpretation for an observation based on prior experience of supported by observations made in an investigation.
Science - a way of learning about the natural world and the knowledge gained through that process.
scientific observation - gained by carefully identifying and describing properties using five sense or scientific tools
Conclusion - the summary of the evidence reached by experimentation
Controlled Variable - the conditions that are the same in an investigation
Dependent Variable - the factor that is observed & measured and changes because of the independent variable that were made by the scientist
Independent Variable - the factor that is changed to affect the outcome of the investigation by the scientist
Investigation - the process of testing your hypothesis under controlled conditions
Length - the measurement of how long an object is from one end to the other
Mass - the amount of matter in an object
Volume - Volume = length x width x height , the amount of space taken up by an object or liquid / amount of space that matter occupies
Weight - the measurement of the force of gravity pulling on an object
Scientific Inquiry - the diverse ways in which scientists explore problems and seek to answer questions about the natural world
Observation - involves using the senses to gather information
Scientific Method - poses questions, develops and tests hypothesis, and draws conclusions
Variable - a factor that can change in an experiment

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
