Ocean Terms

TermDefinition
Inlets A separation of land that lets water flow between barrier islands.
Tides Daily rising and falling in a regular cycle of Earth's waters on its coast.High tide and low tide.
Currents Flow of water in larger body of water.
Waves Cause most of erosion and deposition on beaches. Bigger waves = more erosion.
Barrier Islands A small island along a coastline formed by deposition.Barrier islands protect the coastline.Their shape always change.Ex:Hilton Head.
