Ocean Landforms

TermDefinition
Continental Shelf The extension of the continental crust under the ocean.
Continental Slope A steep drop off at the edge of the continental shelf.
Mid-Ocean Ridge A long chain of volcanic mountains found on the edge of plates.
Rift Zone A notch/cut or valley between the edges of the plates at a spreading plate boundary.
Ocean Trench A deep valley that forms when a ocean plate moves below another plate.
Ocean Basin The area locked between the edges of the oceanic crust and a mid-ocean ridge.
