Core Prac- Daphnia

QuestionAnswer
What is this core prac looking at? The effect of Caffine concentration on the heart rate of Daphnia
What is the overall effect of Caffine on the heart rate? The higher the caffine concentration the faster the heart rate, until the heart rate peaks and starts to fall.
What is the fist step of this experement? Place an indiviual Daphnia onto a cavity slide, with a small amount of distilled water to allow it to breath.
How can you keep the Daphnia from moving? By using a few small strands of cotton wool over it, will stop it from moving.
What will you do before measuring the heart rate with caffine? Measure its resting heart rate for a comparison
How long will you measure the heart rate for? Heart rate per minute
What is the dependant variable in this prac? (What is being measured) The heart rate of the daphnia
What is the independant variable in this prac? (What is going to be changed) The concentration of caffiine
What is an unethical reason for using invertibrates? The Daphina may be killed, and they have a weak nervous system
