rocks and minerals

hardness a minerals ability to resist being scratched.
luster describes the way the surface of a mineral reflects light.
mineral a solid material with particles arranged in a repeating pattern
streak the color of powder left behind when you rub a mineral against white tile called a streak plate.
rock a material made up of one or more minerals.
igneous rock rocks that form when melted rock (lava, magma) hardens
weathering rocks that are broken down into smaller pieces.
erosion the movement of weathered rock pieces from one place to another.
sedimentary rock rock formed from layers of sediment
metamorphic rock when heat and pressure are applied to sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic rocks and change them.
