| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Compound | Made from 2 different atoms that chemically combine |
| Conservation of Mass | matter is never created or destroyed it is simply rearranges itself |
| Covalent Compound | 2 Nonmetals |
| Ionic Compound | metal and Nonmetal |
| Lewis Dot Structure | picture that shows how element form compound using valance electrons |
| Substance | is a matter that has the same fixed composition and properties. |
| Heterogeneous mixture | A type of mixture where the substances are not mixed evenly |
| Homogeneous mixture | type of mixture where two or more substances are evenly mixed on a molecular level but are not bonded together |
| Solution | homogeneous mixture whose elements and/or compounds are evenly mixed at the molecular level but are not bonded together |
| Solute | substance that dissolves and seems to disappear into another substance |
| Solvent | substance that dissolves the solute |
| Precipitate | solid that comes back out of it's solution because of a chemical reaction or physical change |
| Molecule | a group of atoms bonded together |
| Physical change | one in which the form or appearance of matter changes, but not it's composition |
| Vaporization | a liquid changes into a gas |
| Condensation | a gas changes into a liquid |
| Sublimation | a solid that changes directly into a gas |
| Deposition | gas changes into a solid |
| Chemical change | substances are changed into different substances |
