Science vocabulary on genetics

| Asexual Reproduction | Reproduction from a single parent |
| Sexual Reproduction | Reproduction from two parents |
| Chromosome | Small strands of DNA that contain genes; each male and female contain 23 chromosomes |
| Dominant | An allele which masks the recessive phenotype in reproduction |
| Recessive | An allele that creates a phenotype (eye color, skin color, etc.) |
| Genes | A unit made of DNA in a Chromosome that can determine characteristics of an offspring |
| Genetics | The science of heredity and genes |
| Trait | A dominant characteristic of an offspring |
| Function | A role assigned to an organism to carry out that task |
| Nucleus | The central part of a cell that controls the cell's activities |
| Heredity | The inheritance of characteristics of an offspring from a parent |
| Structure | The "framework" of what an organism is made up of |
| DNA | Deoxyribonucleic Acid; the main component in a chromosome that transfers genetic traits to offspring |
| Offspring | Children of one or more parents |
| Genotype | The genetic composition of an organism |
| Phenotype | The physical (outward) appearance of an organism |
