| soil | a complex mixture of minerals, water, gases, and organic material |
| erosion | the process in which materials of Earth’s surface are loosened, dissolved, or worn away and transported by natural agents |
| mass movement | the traveling of a large area of sediment or a section of land down a slope |
| horizon | a horizontal layer of soil that is clearly different from the layers above and below it |
| humus | dark, organic material formed in solid from decayed plants and animals |
